N.B. golf course named Canadian hidden gem

New Brunswickers young and old can play a round of golf at one of the top-ranked courses this season.

The Algonquin Golf Course in Saint Andrews has been ranked the sixth-best hidden gem golf course in Canada, according to NBC GolfPass’ annual Golfers’ Choice ranking lists.

A total of 25 courses were named a hidden gem out of 340 reviewed in 2023. The Algonquin is also the only New Brunswick course to make the list.

Golf Pass officials say they compile the annual Golfers’ Choice lists by analyzing the ratings and reviews submitted by golfers throughout the previous year.

They use the GolfPass’ Ratings Index logic that weighs newer reviews and combines it with a course’s subcategory averages. Courses are eligible for the rating if they offer public access and have received at least two reviews in 2023 to be eligible for this year’s list.

Since being built in 1894, the Algonquin was also been ranked in the top 100 courses in Canada in 2020.

The opening day for the course is this Friday.
