A local student is helping her peers have a healthy start to the day.

Yarmouth High senior Serenity Crowell has been running the school breakfast program for over a year.

She provides a wide variety of options, coming in early to prepare everything.

“In January, 2023 I took it on, and I began to change it where we serve fresh fruit everyday. Since then, we’ve had less food waste, and the kids just overall enjoy it,” said Crowell.

She says she’s received support from the school and local businesses who have given her great resources.

“I was very lucky to have my mother and my school to back me up throughout the process, and great community places that were willing to give me the best bang for my buck.”

Even though she’s graduating in June, the future of the program is bright.

Crowell has two grade nine students who plan to take over the program next year.
