The Thunder Bay District Health Unit has launched its spring COVID-19 vaccine program.

The health unit is recommending that residents who are at an increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19 should get an additional vaccine dose for extra protection.

The increased risk group includes:

  • People 65 years of age and older,
  • Residents of a long-term care home or other congregate living setting for seniors,
  • Individuals 6 months and older who are moderately to severely immunocompromised (due to underlying condition or treatment),
  • Indigenous people 55 years of age and older

Eligible individuals may receive the vaccine if it has been at least 6 months since their previous dose or confirmed COVID-19 infection.

Residents who aren’t a part of the risk group are eligible to receive another dose if a healthcare provider recommends it or they are starting or completing a primary COVID-19 vaccination series.

Unlike prior years the health unit will not be hosting a vaccine clinic at the Canadian Lakehead Exhibition but will be offering a limited amount of vaccination appointments for young children.

Non-youth vaccinations can be booked through a local pharmacy or a health care provider.
