Former Java Blend employees to call for boycott

By Jacob Moore Apr 16, 2024 | 1:21 PM

Former Java Blend employees will call for a boycott on the business and its products until the company reaches a collective agreement with union members.

The former employees plan to call for the boycott at a rally outside the company’s North Street location on April 28, according to a news release from the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 2 union.

Nine former employees of Java Blend, including four leaders of a union drive, were fired on Jan. 23. An Unfair Labour Practice Complaint, filed by the SEIU against Java Blend, claims that those job terminations were illegal.

Java Blend said the layoffs were to maintain “financial stability.”

“Java Blend needs to drop its frivolous objections, come to the bargaining table, and reach a fair agreement,” the news release says.
