Consolidation talks are on hold in Shelburne County.

The Town and Municipality of Shelburne, and the Town of Lockeport were discussing the benefits.

Shelburne Warden Penny Smith says the three have decided to press pause.

“We remain committed to engaging in discussions about the potential benefits and challenges of consolidation as we explore whether it can enhance the quality of life for residents,” said Smith.

The units say consolidation is a complex issue, and they’ll defer discussions until after October’s election.

They say they don’t want to rush the dialogue required to make an informed decision.
