City crews will be out on the road starting Monday to begin Thunder Bay’s spring street sweeping program.

The program kicks off every year when temperatures rise above zero. The focus is removing sand spread on streets and sidewalks over the winter months.

Downtown core areas, bike lanes, and arterial and collector streets are completed before operations move to residential areas.

In addition to tidying up local roads, street sweeping keeps lanes clear for pedestrian and cyclist safety, makes road markings visible, reduces the risk of damage to vehicles, and keeps road sand out of our rivers and lakes.

The city requests that drivers and pedestrians use extra caution around street sweeping operations.
