Southwest Storm on verge of another NSRJHL championship

By Kevin Northup Apr 11, 2024 | 11:00 AM

The Southwest Storm are one win away from another championship.

The Junior C hockey team from Barrington can claim a third straight Nova Scotia Regional Junior Hockey League title on Friday night.

They visit the East Hants Penguins for Game 5 of the final, leading the series 3-1.

Head Coach Andrew Holland says they have a good mix of veterans and youth.

“I think a little bit of it is experience. It’s not going to be easy to close out East Hants, they’re a strong team. We’re hoping to get it done on Friday night,” said Holland.

If necessary, Game 6 would be played in Barrington on Saturday night.

The Storm had to battle back against Sackville in the second round and win three straight games.

Holland says they never gave up.

“We’ve just had a no quit attitude all year. Our motto is ‘no excuses,’ we were never going to stop playing. We hit our stride at the right time, and it’s allowed us to come back.”

About 800 fans filled the rink during Games 3 and 4 last weekend at the Sandy Wickens Memorial Arena.

The winner of the series moves on to the Maritime championship in Miramichi later this month.
