An experienced businesswoman is throwing her hat in the ring to become mayor of the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg.

Elspeth McLean-Wile ran a local business for 40 years, is a farmer and an active community member.

She says she’s excited about her announcement.

“I ran a business in this community for a long time and I have been involved in a number of community initiatives and organizations. This has given me a perspective on some of the ways I can help contribute.”

McLean-Wile says during that experience you get to know all about what is happening and what needs attention.

She is also a founding member of NOW Luneburg County, a platform where she advocated for growth, internet service and recruiting doctors to the area.

McLean-Wile adds that we need to plan for population growth 5, 10, 15 years into the future.

“We want to make sure that we can preserve the things that we love about the district, but we also need to welcome people because we need people to fill the jobs and buy the businesses.”

McLean-Wile is a current board member of the YMCA of Southwest Nova Scotia, Chair of the Lunenburg County Community Fund and advisor with LIFT Lunenburg County.

Through this, she has had the opportunity to hear the concerns of families, small business owners and community organizations.

McLean-Wile looks forward to working with the council to build on our successes and look for solutions to the challenges facing rural communities.

The upcoming municipal elections are this October.
