Thunder Bay residents can now view the status of current recommendations for the city’s Police Service Board.

The Thunder Bay Police Service Board has launched a new web portal on its website that will show updates from working groups on progress toward current recommendations. The board aims to improve transparency around the work to implement current recommendations.

“It is important to show the work being done by members of the Board and its working groups to ensure the recommendations are in place,” said Board Chair Karen Machado. “Ensuring this process is a transparent one is critical as the working groups members move forward in their work.

A working group was launched in 2023 that saw the board and community members come together to review all the board’s current recommendations while focusing on identifying priorities and working on plans to ensure implementation.

This comes as the Thunder Bay Police Board was disbanded in 2018 following a report from then-Senator Murray Sinclair that highlighted various failures on the board’s behalf including transparency.  The Sinclair report in 2018 first recommended the Board develop a website and enhance public-facing communications.

Progress will be updated on the Board’s website on an ongoing basis, and the Board will receive a monthly report.

The recommendation tracker can be accessed by clicking here.
