U de M tuition to rise

By Tara Clow Apr 8, 2024 | 12:27 PM

Students attending l’Université de Moncton in the fall will be paying more.

The university’s board of governors approved a three per cent increase in tuition on Saturday.

They also approved the budget for the 2024-25 year, which shows a slight surplus of $1.5 million.

The board states it has been able to make some strategic investments in recent years due to the increase in international enrolment.

With the cap on international study permits announced in January, there’s some uncertainty about whether it will affect enrolment for the upcoming school year.

“In the last few days, we were pleased to learn that the number of record letters for international students that will be allocated to us will increase, thus enabling us to welcome more students than we had anticipated when the new policy was announced. However, many factors remain uncertain, and we need to be prudent in our spending as well,” says Dr. Denis Prud’homme, president and vice-chancellor.

The board says this budget will prioritize investments in flagship projects and priority actions under the institutional operational plan of the Setting Course for the Future 2023-2028 strategy, in addition to supporting the Climate Action Plan.
