Sackville hospital foundation launches $225K campaign

It is one of the largest fundraising goals in the history of the Sackville Memorial Hospital Foundation.

The foundation is looking to raise $225,000 as part of its 2024 campaign, which launched on Thursday.

Bill Evans, chair of the foundation, said that money will be used to buy an array of modern surgical gear.

“I think we’re going to make it because we have our usual loyal donors who support our local hospital and we have some exceptionally large and exceptionally anonymous donations,” Evans said in an interview.

The fundraising is in addition to Horizon Health’s $2-million investment to renovate the hospital’s operating room.

According to the foundation, the Sackville hospital performed about 2,000 surgical procedures over the past year.

It offers more than 240 types of orthopedic, plastic, urology, vascular, obstetrics/gynecology, ENT, and general surgeries.

Evans said the renovated space and new equipment will boost surgery numbers, helping to alleviate the backlog of less complex day surgeries while allowing quicker access to more complex ones at The Moncton Hospital.

In addition, the hospital will be able to perform additional types of surgical procedures, such as hip arthroscopy.

“Any extra capacity anywhere in the system reduces wait times in the system, so it’s a win-win,” he said.

You can donate to the campaign through the foundation’s website or by calling 506-364-4205.
