Mariners Centre tweaks design of expansion

By Kevin Northup Apr 5, 2024 | 12:39 PM

The Mariners Centre expansion is still on track.

Some changes to the design of the building have been made, a tender is still expected to go out this spring.

The changes include pool seating, accessibility, and enhancements to fitness centre spaces.

Expansion board chair Nicole Albright says they listened to the community.

“This is in addition to the ‘What We Heard’ report. These were some other things the public asked about. There are a few tweaks, but we are still on track,” said Albright.

One item that could not be included was a gymnasium.

Albright says the project is based on survey results from a few years ago, and a gym was not a priority in the project.

“It’s based on survey results from a few years ago, and we chose the scope of the project based on what was wanted at that time.”

Ground is expected to be broken this fall.
