Thunder Bay’s PRO Kids Charity Program’s Power to Play fundraiser has returned for its third year.

The fundraising campaign is taking place throughout April and aims to raise $50,000 to help low-income families put their youth into recreational programs.

“Registration fees have been identified as the main barrier to kids participating in recreation and sport,” said PRO Kids Board of Directors Chairperson, Doug Eddington. “Recreation allows kids to develop skills, enhance self-esteem, and prioritize healthy lifestyle choices. It is important that all kids are able to participate and reap the benefits of sports and recreation.”

The charity has helped over 28,000 children access community recreational activities in the last 25 years.

“The idea of the Power to Play campaign is that by donating, you are not just covering the cost of fees, you are being a cheerleader for kids in our community,” said PRO Kids Coordinator Laura Daniele. “You are ensuring that they have equal access to sport and recreation, allowing them to make friends and have fun. By donating you are being a ‘Number One Fan’ of a child in need.”

White Pine Electric kicked off this year’s campaign with a donation of $5,000.
