Mariners look ahead to offseason

The Yarmouth Mariners held a meet-and-greet with fans on Easter weekend.

They were eliminated from the MHL playoffs last week by Summerside.

Mariners Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron says it’s disappointing, but they had a great group of young men.

“What a great group of kids as far as in the community and how they conducted themselves. It was a wonderful group to work with. We didn’t get to where we wanted as a team this year, but there were a lot of positives,” said Barron.

He says they’re focused on helping their graduating players find teams for next season.

Captain Will Chisholm has committed to Saint Mary’s University, while defender Tyler Lee will head to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Falcons.

The MHL Draft will be held in June, Barron says he’ll be watching the upcoming U18 Atlantics tournament closely.

“We want to rebuild and retool our roster a bit, and make sure we put ourselves in a position where we can succeed.”
