An area man faces a long list of charges

Anishinabek Police Service laid 55 charges after arresting a 38-year-old.

Police say the man, who was wanted on several driving offences, was spotted driving a stolen vehicle.

When they tried to stop the vehicle, it sped away at a high rate of speed into oncoming traffic.

A brief chase ensued before it was called off for safety reasons.

Later in the day, police came across the driver on Fort William First Nation.

When officers attempted to make an arrest, the man became uncooperative and attempted to resist arrest before police were able to take him into custody.

As a result of this and previous complaints and incidents, the man was charged with 44 counts of operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, four counts of breaching probation, two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, two counts of flight from police, two counts of possessing property obtained by crime and one count of resisting arrest.

The man is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
