Rainfall warning in effect

By News Mar 27, 2024 | 3:28 PM

It is going to be a very wet couple of days across southern and central New Brunswick.

Rainfall warnings have been issued for a number of communities, including Saint John, the Kennebecasis Valley, Sussex, Charlotte County, Fredericton, Grand Lake, Woodstock, and Kent County.

Environment Canada says 50 to 80 millimetres of rain could fall by Friday evening, with 100 millimetres or more possible in some areas.

Forecasters said rainfall rates of 10 millimetres or more per hour may occur over some locations.

“Significant runoff is expected to occur as the rain combines with mild temperatures, leading to considerable snowmelt,” said the warning.

This could cause localized flooding and elevated water levels in creeks, rivers and streams, said the national weather agency.

Forecasters said the rain is expected to change to snow Friday night or Saturday morning.
