Town of Yarmouth bumps up taxi rates

By Kevin Northup Mar 26, 2024 | 11:38 AM

Taxi rates are going up in the Town of Yarmouth.

They’ll increase by a dollar to $10 from 6 a.m. to midnight and $11 overnight.

Mayor Pam Mood says they consulted with taxi companies.

“I think we all know everyone is feeling the pinch. Costs have increased with everything right across the board, so for the companies, the increase is definitely needed,” said the Mayor.

It’s the first rate increase in two years.

Mayor Mood says they have to ensure the taxis stay on the road.

“We have our taxi users as well, and we know the increase is difficult for them. We did do our research province wide and the companies agreed that this is the way to go forward.”

Other changes include removing the fare rate charges for additional passengers, and adding a five dollar charge for out-of-town deliveries.
