Funding for doctor retention in Yarmouth.
Nearly $80,000 will come from the province for projects planned to welcome and attract new healthcare workers to the area.
Kerry Muise with the Community Navigator Oversight Committee says this opens up many avenues.
“One being a strategic plan, and being able to analyze what we’ve done so far and where we’re going. Everything we applied for in the grant was approved,” said Muise.
Some of the projects include cultural appreciation events, promotions and bike sharing.
Muise says their recruitment program has been one of the most successful in the province so far with many ideas incorporated from the medical community.
“We do have a new physician starting in palliative care soon. But it’s a revolving door, and when we do have professionals that leave, we analyze why and if there’s anything we can change, we look towards doing that.”
She thanks Community Navigator Nancy Ellis, the Yarmouth and Area Chamber of Commerce and all healthcare professionals and volunteers involved.
