7 people facing charges following drug bust

Seven people, six from southern Ontario have been arrested after the Thunder Bay Police Service executed two warrants related to ongoing drug trafficking activity in the city.

On Wednesday a residence on Machar Avenue and another residence on Finlayson Street were searched.

The search led to the seizure of suspected cocaine and fentanyl, with the drugs having an estimated street value of more than $135,000. Police also seized cash totalling nearly $100,000.

Six of the seven people arrested did not have a local Thunder Bay address, and four were from the Greater Toronto Area.

A 28-year-old Brantford resident, a 29-year-old Toronto resident, and a 30-year-oldĀ  Scarborough resident are each charged with two counts of Possession for Trafficking and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000.

The 28-year-old from Brantford faces an additional charge of Possession of a Fraudulent Identity.

A 33-year-old Lancaster resident, a 27-year-old Toronto resident, a 34-year-old Toronto resident, and a 54-year-old Thunder Bay resident, have all been charged with Possession for Trafficking and Possession of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000.

The accused appeared in court on Thursday and has been remanded into custody with future appearance dates.

The investigation remains ongoing.
