Black garbage bags won’t be collected starting April 1

By Kevin Northup Mar 21, 2024 | 12:04 PM

No more black bags when you take out the trash.

Waste Check says as of April 1, you’ll need to put all of your waste in clear bags.

Amy Hillyard with Waste Check says it’s about safety.

“The hazards are easier to spot in bags, and it makes people accountable for what they’re putting in there. If anyone has questions or concerns, they can call us and we can work through those,” said Hillyard.

Hillyard says an audit found that people were using the solid bags for unsorted waste.

She reminds people to continue to put recycling in blue bags, one for paper and cardboard, the other for plastics.

This applies for municipalities in Yarmouth and Digby.
