RCMP officer cleared in Moncton shooting

By Brad Perry Mar 20, 2024 | 6:29 AM

A Codiac RCMP officer will not face charges after shooting a man during a call in Moncton last year.

The Serious Incident Response Team launched an investigation into the incident, which happened on May 15.

Officers were called to a report of a domestic disturbance involving an armed man shortly after 5 a.m.

Investigators said the man threatened officers with a stick in a confined space, despite being told to drop it.

One officer discharged his taser and another fired a shot from his firearm, which struck the man in the chest.

The man spent several weeks in the hospital recovering from his injury but has since been released.

Investigators found the officer who discharged his firearm used “reasonable force” given the circumstances.
