RCMP in Antigonish, N.S., arrested two teenagers and a man following multiple complaints about all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) on Saturday.

Police say that two ATVS were reportedly driving aggressively and almost hitting pedestrians and vehicles between about 7:40 p.m. and 10 p.m.

According to an RCMP news release, officers learned that the ATVs drove:

  • without lights on
  • on roadways against traffic
  • on sidewalks
  • in parking lots

Police tried to stop the ATVs but they drove away.

“A pursuit was not initiated in consideration of public safety,” writes Const. Dominic Laflamme in the release.

Officers located the two ATVs outside a residence in Pomquet. Police say they seized a firearm that they found on one of the ATVs. Inside the residence, police arrested the two drivers and a passenger.

One of the drivers, a 15-year-old from Pomquet, faces charges of:

  • flight from a police officer
  • dangerous operation
  • two counts of failing to comply with undertaking
  • careless use of a firearm
  • eight counts of violating the Off-Highway Vehicles Act
  • one count of violating the Liquor Control Act

The other driver, a 17-year-old from West River, faces charges of:

  • flight from a police officer
  • dangerous operation
  • eight counts of violating the Off-Highway Vehicles Act

Both youths were released on conditions and are set to appear in court in May.

The passenger on one of the ATVs, a 22-year-old man from Cloverville, faces charges under the Off-Highway Vehicles Act and Liquor Control Act.
