Three charged following multiple hit and runs in Halifax over the weekend

Halifax Regional Police has charged three people after two hit and runs in Dartmouth and Halifax over the weekend.

At about 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, police received a report of a vehicle that allegedly hit gravestones in a cemetery on Victoria Road in Dartmouth, according to a police news release.

Officers tried to stop the vehicle near Richmond Street in Halifax, but the driver continued driving.

“Out of concern for public safety, officers did not pursue the vehicle,” police write in the news release.

At about 2:25 a.m., police say they located the vehicle where it had hit another parked vehicle on North Park Street. The suspects had run away.

The vehicle was reported stolen, according to police. The license plate was reportedly stolen from another vehicle and then put on the suspect vehicle.

Shortly after, police say they arrested three suspects in the area.

Kyle Gordon Joseph Buffett, 20, is set to appear in Halifax provincial court Monday and faces charges of:

  • possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • possessing property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • flight from a police officer
  • dangerous operation of a conveyance
  • two counts of operating a conveyance while prohibited
  • failing to stop after an accident
  • operating a conveyance while impaired
  • failing to stop after an accident
  • operation of a conveyance while impaired
  • failing or refusing to comply with demand for testing
  • failing to comply with conditions of a probation order

Jayden Edward Stephen Carvery, 19, is set to appear in Halfiax provincial court Monday. He faces charges of:

  • possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • possessing property obtained by crime under $5,000

Carvery also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for theft of a motor vehicle and trespass by night, police say.

The third suspect, a 15-year-old youth, was charged and released with one count of possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000.
