A Thunder Bay resident on trial attempted to steal a Thunder Bay Police officer’s firearm in a Thunder Bay courtroom on Tuesday.
The man approached an officer and attempted to gain control of the officer’s gun. The accused was eventually arrested after a struggle with one officer sustaining minor injuries.
“I commend our officers for their actions and quick response to ensure everyone’s safety,” said Thunder Bay Police Service Chief Darcy Fleury.
The accused has been charged with Assaulting a Peace Officer, Disarming a Peace Officer, and Resisting a Peace Officer, in addition to the charges they were already facing.
The accused was transported to the Thunder Bay District Jail where they remain in custody under a separate court order.
