Mariners to face league-leading Caps in first round

By Kevin Northup Mar 11, 2024 | 9:10 AM

It will be the Yarmouth Mariners against the Summerside Western Capitals in the first round of the MHL playoffs.

The Mariners dropped their final two games of the regular season over the weekend, while Pictou County won both of their games to knock Yarmouth from second in the Eastlink South Division to the fourth and final playoff spot.

That means the Mariners have to face the league’s top-ranked team, and begin the series on the road later this week.

Games 1 and 2 go in Summerside on Saturday and Sunday.

The series will shift back to Yarmouth on Friday, March 22 and Saturday March 23 for Games 3 and 4.

The Mariners fell 4-1 to the Truro Bearcats in front of a near sold-out crowd on Friday night, then lost 5-2 in Amherst on Saturday.

The Mariners finished the regular season with a 26-20-3-3 record.

Yarmouth and Summerside split their season series, with many games going to extra time.

The other Eastlink South Division series will feature the Ramblers against the Crushers.
