160km/h nets Thunder Bay man several charges

A Thunder Bay man faces a number of charges after fleeing a traffic stop west of Fort Frances.

Ontario Provincial Police attempted to pull the vehicle over just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday after clocking it at 160 kilometres per hour in a posted 90 kilometre per hour zone on Highway 71 near Chapple.

In an attempt to avoid police the 24-year-old driver parked the vehicle and ran away on foot, however he was apprehended after a brief search.

He has been charged with:

  • Criminal Code with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 plus
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt
  • Drive Without Proper Rear Light – Motor Vehicle
  • Drive Motor Vehicle – No Currently Validated Permit

In addition to the charges, he has also had his licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven.

The accused is set to appear in court on April 15th.
