The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) has terminated its investigation into a recent arrest in eastern New Brunswick.
Mounties received a report of a disturbance involving a man armed with a knife in Saint-Antoine on Jan. 21.
Investigators say the man was arrested and suffered self-inflicted injuries while being transported by police.
“The SiRT attempted to investigate further; however, despite repeated efforts made by the SiRT to interview the man, he refused,” the agency said in a news release on Tuesday.
“On this basis, the interim director of the SiRT found there was insufficient evidentiary foundation from which to continue with an investigation and the file has been closed.”
SiRT investigates all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of public interest that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer in New Brunswick.
