We should have just above normal temperatures in northwestern Ontario this spring.

So says the Weather Network in it’s annual spring forecast.

Doug Gillham is a meteorologist and says the situation is pretty much the same across Canada.

“Spring is always a season of change…this spring especially,” explains Gillham.

“We’ll have these well defined periods where it’s quite mild.  A moody season but warmth dominates.”

Gillham adds the El Nino effect, which dominated our winter weather, is starting to wane and is being replaced by La Nina.

“These back and forth swings of temperatures.  We think warmth outduels the periods of cold weather and that is a lot like we saw during the winter.  We seeing that now as we wrap up February and kick off March.”

Gillham says March is coming in like a lamb with temperatures well above average today with highs varying from 5 to 6 degrees.
