Bus services for students have been cancelled in a number of communities this morning due to the winter storm impacting the region today.

Environment Canada says several communities could see up to 25 centimetres of snow, at rates of three to five centimetres per hour.

The Northwestern Ontario Student Services Consortium has issued an alert that all buses in Kenora, Sioux Narrows, Ear Falls, Red Lake, Vermilion Bay, Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Ignace and Upsala will be cancelled due to weather and road conditions.

Meanwhile to the south, Rainy River District Transportation Services Consortium says it has cancelled all buses for Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation, Rainy River First Nation and Seine River First Nation, along with buses 100, 110, 225, NFN830, NFN831, NFN832 and BIFN800 to McCrosson-Tovell School due to the weather.

Additionally, snowfall warnings have been issued for the entire Rainy River District, Sioux-Narrow-Nestor Falls, Dryden, and Ignace, as the weather is also slated to bring reduced visibility in both heavy and blowing snow.
