Study looks at electrifying Atlantic Canadian schools buses

By Brad Perry Feb 26, 2024 | 2:14 PM

A feasibility study is looking at the electrification of provincially-owned school bus fleets in Atlantic Canada.

$495,000 is being invested by the federal government, as well as the governments of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador.

The goal is to help determine the requirements for electrification and assess the feasibility of transitioning provincially-owned school bus fleets.

It would include up to 1,250 school buses in New Brunswick and up to 1,300 school buses in Nova Scotia.

The study, announced on Friday, will develop a roadmap to enhance the provinces’ knowledge of zero-emission transportation.

It will also cover infrastructure requirements, timelines and long-term cost savings, among other things.

There is no word yet on when the study will be completed.
