The province is going to replace the Gates Lane Bridge in Weymouth.
A bailey bridge will be installed this year, according to the Department of Public Works.
The century-old bridge closed suddenly last month due to safety concerns.
The province heard from citizens in a public meeting last month that they wanted the quickest fix possible.
Digby/Annapolis MLA Jill Balser says the department re-visited Weymouth on Saturday to share the update.
“So being able to have that as the recommendation and now the outcome, I think is a positive message and a positive way forward for the department and the community,” said Balser.
Many citizens said the closure is adding significant travel time daily.
A tender is going out soon, no word on exactly when the new bridge will be installed.
