Area skiers compete at OFSAA

High school skiers from northwestern Ontario were shutout from the medal podium at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association’s Nordic Skiing championships in Lakefield, Ontario.

Gavin Berube from Ignace High School was tenth in the senior boys open race, finishing 2 minutes and 30 seconds behind the first-place finisher.

Thirty-six skiers from across the province were entered.

In the senior boys high school division, Seven Meyer from Red Lake High School in 51st, Kyler Kobelka from Ignace in 69th, and Kaleb Woods, also from Ignace, finished 88th out of the 119 skiers involved.

In the senior girls high school division, Kieran Faulds of Red Lake placed 26th, while Julia Guertin from Fort Frances High School placed 49th out of the 99 skiers that finished.

In the junior girls 5k, Sadie Wood finished 34th, Brooklynn Dumontier was 87th, and Sarah Grant was 93rd out of the 151 competitors. All are from Red Lake High School.

In the junior boys event, Nash Parsons of Ignace was 50th, and Camden Wilkins of Red Lake was 116th out of 174 skiers that finished.
