Athletes from Yarmouth are headed to the national Special Olympic Winter Games in Calgary.

Walter Muise is part of the five-member curling team that will represent Nova Scotia.

He says he’s looking forward to facing the best, and thanks the community for their support.

“Hopefully there will be a lot of competition. It’s more fun with more teams. The community really supported us, and this could help us out a little further on, too,” said Muise.

Gary Hudson with the local organization says many businesses stepped up and donated.

He says the focus is having fun.

“We want them to go enjoy the experience, win or lose. It’s about meeting people from across the country and just having a good time,” said Hudson.

They’ll leave Saturday for Calgary, nearly 50 athletes from our province will be taking part.

A floor hockey team from Shelburne County will also be making the trip.
