Volunteers and professional outreach organizations in Saint John are collecting donations for those experiencing homelessness.

Street Team SJ, Fresh Start, the city, and several community organizations have teamed up to create the Project Green Room donation drive.

Volunteers will be at the former Hilton Belyea Arena on Lowell Street for the next three Saturdays (Feb. 24, March 2 and March 9) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Items being collected include clothing, shoes and winter boots, as well as hygiene items such as soap, shampoo, and dental care.

Larger items such as tents, tarps, and kitchen utensils are also being accepted, according to organizers.

Officials said dropping off items during non-scheduled times could lead to fines for illegal dumping.

They are also asking people not to drop off donated goods directly to the encampment sites throughout the city.
