A long-time Liberal MP is looking at running for the mayor’s job in Halifax.

Andy Fillmore is considering running for the job when municipal elections are held in October.

He confirmed his intentions in an interview with Laker News in Sackville on Monday.

Fillmore was first elected as Halifax’s MP in 2015.

Prior to being elected, he worked in the planning department for the city.

The mayor’s job will be up for grabs after Mike Savage announced he would not seek re-election in the fall.

Fillmore is one of the first prominent figures to potentially add his name to the race. He adds he’ll a decision one way or another will be made soon.
