Update – February 17, 2024

New Brunswick RCMP has located the 64-year-old Grande-Digue ice sailor, who was found deceased.

Police say an autopsy will be conducted to determine the man’s exact cause of death.

The search continues Thursday for an ice sailor reported missing in southeastern New Brunswick.

Search efforts began in the Grande-Digue area on Wednesday for 64-year-old Daniel Robichaud.

RCMP said he was last seen on the short of Martin Street in Grande-Digue at around 1:30 p.m.

It is believed he was ice sailing in the Shediac Island and Grande-Digue area, but he has not returned.

“Police and his family are concerned for his wellbeing,” RCMP said in a news release on Thursday.

Several organizations have been involved with the search, including the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) in Halifax.

Lt.-Commander Len Hickey said Mounties contacted them for assistance around 6:20 p.m. Wednesday and they dispatched a Cormorant helicopter.

The senior public affairs officer said JRCC stood down overnight when the RCMP helicopter took over the search.

Robichaud is described as being about 5’8″ tall, weighing about 165 pounds, with light brown eyes, and grey hair with a trimmed grey beard.

He was last seen wearing a burnt orange winter jacket and black snow pants, as well as protective equipment such as white hockey shin pads, white hockey shoulder pads, and a black hockey helmet.

“Residents can expect an increased police presence in the area as a number of specialized services continue to search for Daniel Robichaud,” said the release.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Shediac RCMP at 506-533-5151.
