Yarmouth town council passes $3.6M capital budget

The Town of Yarmouth approved their $3.6 million capital budget.

Some of the big projects this year include continued support of Mariners Centre Expansion, and money for two new fire trucks.

Mayor Pam Mood says getting the list together is a process.

“You get the directors of each department together and ask what highlights they’re after, and what will make things better for the Town of Yarmouth and our citizens. Everything is put on the table,” said Mayor Mood.

There’s also money for extensions to active living trails, the ferry terminal and street paving.

Mood says they’re also purchasing two new transit busses.

“It’s a half-a-million dollars, and those busses are being built as we speak. We hope to have them on the road by this fall.”

There’s also money for the Argyle track-and-field facility.

A sewer separation project at the corner of Vancouver and Main streets will also begin in spring, but that money is left over from last year’s budget.
