A chance for you to hear information and ask questions on the pallet shelters coming to Lower Sackville.

In order to help combat homelessness throughout the HRM, 19 pallet shelters are set to go in the parking lot at the Beacon House Shelter, over the next couple of weeks.

However, a petition against the expansion is circulating online and so far, has over 1,000 signatures.

Community members say the pallets are a risk to the public, being close to a local high school and across from a skate park.

The petition also claims that the development is in ”direct violation of long-standing HRM by-laws and zoning statutes.”

It says if their concerned are ignored, they are willing to go to the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia.

The HRM has ordered evictions from five tent encampments by February 26th, including the ballfield on Cobequid Rd.

The meeting is Thursday at the Kinsmen Community Centre at 7 p.m.

Staff from Beacon House, representatives from the Department of Community Service and the RCMP will be on hand.
