Routine work continues on St. Peters Canal

By Kelli Rickard Feb 14, 2024 | 12:26 PM

The historic St. Peters Canal looks quite different these days.

Last month water was removed for lock maintenance.

Parks Canada says draining is routine work done about every 10-15 years.

Asset Manager for the Cape Breton Field Unit, Robie Gourd, estimates roughly 450-thousand cubic feet of water was pumped out of the lock.

After delays due to weather, it’s expected maintenance will be complete, and the water will be replaced in the next week or so.
