The LCBO has ended its controlled entrance pilot program that was announced earlier this week before it even got off the ground.

The cancellation comes following conversations with the provincial government that resulted in the request to cancel the program.

According to the LCBO, “They remain committed to working collaboratively on additional measures to reduce shop theft and violent incidents in their stores and ensure safe experiences for their customers and employees.”

The Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries (MBLL) implemented controlled entrances in 2020, and on their website, they reference plummeting theft and positive feedback from customers and employees, but it seems that the LCBO will be moving in a different direction.
