The city’s green pin program has taken another step towards coming to fruition.
City council has approved the additional required cost to acquire two tandem garbage trucks at committee of the whole.
The trucks were first approved in 2021, but supply chain issues have delayed the production and delivery of the trucks leading to the additional cost of $133,071.79, bringing the total cost to $977,804.12.
Outfitted as auto-cart ready, the trucks also have split body compartments to accommodate co-collection of garbage and green bin waste, highlighting their importance to the green bin program.
The company manufacturing the trucks FST Canada has advised the city that no further delays are expected and the trucks are planned for production in the 2nd quarter of 2024 with delivery to the city expected in the 4th quarter of 2024.
