Thunder Bay’s 2024 budget has been ratified.

Thunder Bay residents now have clarity on this year’s municipal tax levy increase which has been finalized at 5.47 per cent after growth and 5.91 per cent before growth.

The final budget review meeting saw the before-growth municipal tax levy sitting at 5.93 per cent and the after-growth sitting at 5.48 per cent, but one final change lowered the levy by a fraction.

A golf user fee increase has been approved by council leading to the final tax levy dropping to 5.91 per cent before growth, and 5.47 per cent after growth.

“We got a lot of work to do over the year; I think this is an important achievement to at least get this down and you know it’s just important that we continue to push-pull together,” remarked Councillor Brian Hamilton on the budget process. “So even though I think that we kind of contended on some various issues, I think it’s just important that we are, you know, working together.”

Throughout the process council’s goal was to get the after-growth tax levy at or below 5.5 per cent which they have officially achieved.
