Another tight game for the Yarmouth Mariners.
They beat Valley 5-4 in overtime at Mariners Centre Monday night in front of nearly 1,100 fans.
Will Chisholm scored twice, including the game winner two minutes into the extra frame.
Yarmouth held a 2-0 lead early on goals by Chisholm and Jared Pitman.
But Valley fought back to tie it, and grabbed the lead in the second period.
Sam Hope ended up tying the game at four before the teams played a scoreless third period.
Head Coach Laurie Barron says the Wildcats played them tough.
“We have the weight of the world on our shoulders. There’s a lot of pressure, the playoffs are looming. We are battling for a spot and we’ll take the two points. I just thought we were ok tonight,” said Barron postgame.
The win vaulted the Mariners back into the fourth and final playoff spot in their division, one point ahead of Pictou County.
Barron says his team is still looking for momentum.
“Confidence is a wonderful thing. Once we generate some momentum I think we can make some noise.”
Yarmouth will host Amherst on Friday night, visit Truro Saturday and welcome the Crushers next Monday for a 4 p.m. Heritage Day game.
