Coroner’s inquest scheduled into N.B. man’s death

By Regis Phillips Feb 12, 2024 | 1:46 PM

A coroner’s inquest has been ordered into a workplace death in northern New Brunswick four years ago.

Louis Gagnon died on Jan. 27, 2020, after being injured while working at NB Power’s Belledune Generating Station.

Deputy Chief Coroner Emily Caissy and a jury will publicly hear evidence from witnesses to determine the facts surrounding Gagnon’s death.

While they cannot make any finding of legal responsibility, the jury can make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths in the future.

The four-day inquest is scheduled to run from Feb. 20 to 23.
