The explosion at a seniors home in Sydney, has resulted in tragedy.

According to reports, the woman who was seriously injured, has passed away.

NDP Leader Claudia Chender calls the death ‘devastating’ and her thoughts are with the family.

Roughly 60 were displaced after the incident Friday, on Reeves St.

The Canadian Red Cross says they are working alongside community partners to provide the survivors with lodging, food and clothing.

This comes as residents in Cape Breton continue to recover from last week’s historic storm which brought between 100-150cm to the area, stranding many residents in their homes and another storm is on the way, Tuesday.

Chender says they will continue to support in any way possible.

The federal Minister of Emergency Preparedness Harjit Sajjan says his ‘thoughts are with those affected by the explosion.’

He adds they will continue to adjust support to meet the community’s needs.
