The new nursing home in Port Hawkesbury is getting closer to reality.
In a press release, MLA and Deputy Premier Allan MacMaster says planning is set to start this fall, with construction expected to begin in 2026.
It’s expected the building will be ready for residents in 2028.
MacMaster says people in Port Hawkesbury are very excited about this and he is “so glad to see this moving forward for everyone living and working there.”
MacLeod Cares, who operates the community’s current nursing home, is building five homes throughout Nova Scotia in Mahone Bay, Glace Bay, Shelburne, Annapolis Royal and Port Hawkesbury.
MacMaster says, “Over 2500 nursing home beds are being added across the province. All nursing home residents will benefit with the hiring of 2000 additional caregivers to increase the minimum hours of care they receive each day.”
“The new daily standard of 4.1 hours of care for each resident will make a difference in the lives they live.”
