A thriller at the Fishtank.

Jared Pitman scored the shootout winner for the Yarmouth Mariners, as they beat Miramichi 6-5 Saturday night.

The Mariners went down 4-0 in the second period, but rallied to tie it early in the third.

Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron says his team showed resiliency.

“We’re fighting for our lives here. It hasn’t been easy this season, we’ve battled injuries and suspensions. No matter what, these guys don’t quit and I’m proud of them,” said Barron.

The Timberwolves went up 4-0 at the 12:24 mark of the second period.

Yarmouth would close the period with a pair of quick goals from Keefe Marshall and Liam Trenholm

A blazing start to the third saw the Mariners tie it with goals by Will Chisholm and Nathan Carter just 1:02 in.

Miramichi would quickly re-take the lead, but Jerome Nadeau knotted things up again at 6:21 of the final frame.

Thomas Fontaine got the win in net with 35 saves.

The win put Yarmouth into a tie with Pictou County for the last playoff spot in the division.

Barron says every point is valuable.

“We had a good crowd here, and when we got down, we didn’t want to go out that way. The guys battled.”

Next up for the Mariners, a road game against Valley on Thursday night, followed by a home date with the Truro Bearcats on Friday.
