The South Shore Lumberjacks have been fined $3,000 after the team decided on Friday not to travel for their scheduled game the due to weather concerns.

The statement from the Nova Scotia Juniour Hockey League indicated that the Lumberjacks did not provide adequete notice to the league or the hosting East Coast Penguins of their decision, which is why they are receiving the fine.

The Chair of the Board of Governors of the South Shore Lumberjacks John Patterson has since responded, “We are obviously disappointed by this decision for a number of reasons, least of which the inaccuracy over the weather/travel advisory statement,” Patterson said.

The team is also planning to appeal the decision.

The NSJHL also indicated that other teams in similair locations did travel on Friday night and were able to do so safely as the weekends snowstorm was in it’s early stages.

On Saturday the Lumberjacks home game was also canceled due to weather, however that decision was made in accordance with league policies and no fine is expected.
