Riverview Winter Carnival planned February 2 to 11

By Tara Clow Jan 31, 2024 | 12:41 PM

The Town of Riverview is looking to warm things during its 49th annual Winter Carnival from Feb. 2 to 11.

“We have a lot of exciting things happening this year. There are over 40 events that are organized by local organizations as well as the town. It’s a mix of indoor and outdoor activities. There’s everything from skating to snowshoeing, dances, and card parties,” says Communications Manager Ashly Barron.

It’s the time of year when it’s easy to stay inside and not be as active as other times throughout the year because of the cold, and Barron says their motivation is to get everyone to come out.

“It was established to kind of blow the roof off winter. Get people outside, get people connecting with their friends and neighbours. I think that’s important, especially when the days are dark, the days are long, and it gives us something to look forward to in this season.”

The kickoff event will be held on Friday, Feb. 2, and will include fireworks, along with hot chocolate and music.

A lot of the workshops planned for this year’s Carnival are already booked up, but Barron says you can add your name to the waiting lists if you’re still hoping to get in.

Most events are free or cost very little.

Activity organizers are collecting food or cash donations on behalf of the Albert County Food Bank.
