Mariners lose twice on the road

It wasn’t the road trip the Yarmouth Mariners wanted.

They fell 7-3 to league-leading Summerside on Saturday night, and were shutout 3-0 Sunday afternoon in Amherst.

William Forbes stopped 47 shots in the loss to Summerside Saturday, with Ty Broten, Jerome Nadeau and Michael Marquez scoring goals.

Thomas Fontaine took the loss in Amherst with 34 saves.

The losses knocked the Mariners out of a playoff spot in the Eastlink South Division, three points behind fourth place Truro.

The Mariners do have two games in-hand, and a month-and-a-half left in the regular season.

Next up for Yarmouth, the resumption of a game in Truro on Wednesday night, where the Mariners trailed 2-0 after the 1st period.

The game was stopped earlier this month due to ice issues.
